What it does

doTERRA's Tea Tree comes from two sides of the world: from Australia, where the Melaleuca grows naturally, and from Kenya, where smallholder farmers grow the shrub on land that once yielded little. The leaves are steam-distilled. Worth knowing: in Kenya, tea tree earns up to five times more than maize, and for every kilo of oil a share goes into a fund the cooperatives run themselves.

Tea Tree smells fresh and slightly medicinal, and that's exactly why it's been the skin classic for generations. Traditionally it's used, well diluted, dabbed onto a blemish or a spot that wants some attention. One drop on a cotton pad, diluted with a carrier oil, and you target it precisely.

Around the home, Tea Tree is one of the strongest natural cleaners there is: a few drops in water make a fresh surface spray, and in the wash it keeps towels and sports kit fresh. In your diffuser it clears stale air; lovely in the bathroom or after a bit of DIY.

Fresh surface spray

In a spray bottle, mix 200 ml water, a splash of cleaning vinegar and 20 drops of Tea Tree. Shake before use and wipe your countertop, tap and bin with it; a fresh, clean scent without synthetic perfume. Test a corner first on untreated wood or natural stone.

How to use Tea Tree

1.On the skin: always diluted (1-2 drops to 10 ml carrier oil), targeted with a cotton pad on a spot.
2.Cleaning: a few drops in water as a fresh surface spray, or 5 drops with the laundry.
3.Aromatically: 2-3 drops in your diffuser for fresh air, lovely in the bathroom.
