What it does

doTERRA's Oregano is wild-harvested in Turkey, when the plant is in bloom, by a network of hundreds of small farmers. The aerial parts are steam-distilled. What's left is one of the most concentrated essential oils there is, packed with carvacrol.

Oregano has long been the oil people reach for in the season when everyone's sniffling: traditionally it's used to give the body a firm nudge and to purify a room. Potent it certainly is, so always dilute well, never neat on the skin, and keep it away from your eyes.

In the kitchen a tiny amount is plenty: dip a toothpick in the bottle and stir it through your tomato sauce or marinade, that's really all you need. And diluted with water, Oregano makes a punchy, purifying surface spray for the countertop.

The toothpick trick

Oregano is so strong that one drop overwhelms a whole dish. So dip only the tip of a clean toothpick in the bottle and stir it through your sauce, dressing or marinade. Taste, and only add more if you really need to. That way you get the herby depth without it turning bitter.

How to use Oregano

1.In the kitchen: dip a toothpick in the bottle for sauce, marinade or dressing.

2.Internally: diluted or in a vegetable capsule, briefly in season, only with the EU version suited to it.

3.On the skin: only heavily diluted (1 drop to at least 10 ml carrier oil), never neat, lovely on the soles of the feet.

4.Cleaning: a few drops in water as a punchy, purifying surface spray.
