What it does

Copaiba is unusual: it doesn't come from a flower or a leaf, but from the resin deep in the trunk of the copaifera tree in the Amazon. Harvesters drill a small hole, and the resin drips out like maple syrup from a maple. One tree, which can live up to four hundred years, gives a few litres a year. doTERRA distils the resin gently under vacuum, so the delicate compounds are preserved.

What makes Copaiba so loved is its high level of beta-caryophyllene, a plant compound that binds in the body to the so-called CB2 receptors (the same family so much research looks at, but from an ordinary, legal plant, with nothing psychoactive). The scent is warm and woody, and plenty of people use it to settle in the evening or after a busy day.
