Warm, spicy and a touch sweet, from Guatemala. A relative of ginger, and just as welcome after a hearty meal.
π€ Elettaria cardamomum Β· warm & spicy
doTERRA's Cardamom comes from Guatemala and Honduras, where it grows in the shade of tall trees. The seed pods are picked, dried for around thirty-six hours and then carefully steam-distilled. In Honduras there's the Poverty Stoplight project, which helps families work their own way out of poverty; one of the farmers was able to build a house with running water from it.
Cardamom is a relative of ginger, and you can taste and smell it: warm, spicy, with a fresh, almost eucalyptus-like edge. Traditionally it's used after eating, to give a full stomach a little room, and that fresh note also makes it lovely when you want to breathe more freely.
In the kitchen, Cardamom is worth its weight in gold: one drop in your chai, your coffee or your apple pie batter. And in the diffuser it brings a warm, spicy atmosphere, just right when it's grim outside.
Warm a mug of milk (or oat milk), stir in a spoon of honey and dip a clean toothpick in the Cardamom bottle; stir it through briefly. Warm, spicy and comforting, without opening a whole spice rack. Start small; cardamom is stronger than you'd think.
Every batch independently tested. Pure oil, exactly what's on the label, and nothing else.
